Escondido, CA – Three Pedestrians Injured after Brutal Accident at Hidden Valley Middle School on Reed Road
Escondido, CA (August 17, 2018) – The Escondido Police Department reported that three pedestrians and one passenger sustained injuries as the result of a brutal accident that took place outside Hidden Valley Middle School at 2700 Reed Road. The incident occurred at approximately 1:50 PM in the afternoon on Thursday, August 16, 2018. At this time, no detailed information concerning the identities of the adult victim, the three children, and the motorist involved in the crash has been revealed.
According to police reports, an unidentified elderly woman was driving on the school’s parking lot when, at some point, she became confused and swerved out of control. Without warning, she plowed through a fence and struck the adult and two children, who were preparing to leave Hidden Valley.
Sometime later, one child was transported via air ambulance and the second by ground ambulance to Rady’s Children’s Hospital in San Diego.
Meanwhile, the parent accompanying the children was sent to Palomar Medical Center in Escondido.
Authorities confirmed a child who had been riding in the vehicle also sustained injuries.
Medical personnel reported all four victims sustained non-life threatening injuries. No information about the elderly female driver was immediately disclosed.
Officials have determined that this was not a DUI incident.
At this time, the investigation is ongoing. As more evidence continues to surface, more information will be released to public sources.
Pedestrian Accident in San Diego County
By law, drivers are required to decrease the speed of their vehicles and provide the right of way to pedestrians across all areas of a roadway. Given the circumstances, authorities have not confirmed if the parent and two children were walking in a marked or unmarked zone on the school property. Through a careful forensic examination of the vehicle and the crash site, officials can determine if the driver experienced mechanical issues or system failure. Officials will also consider if negligence or recklessness were likely factors in the accident.
Once the case is resolved, the injured parent may have the right to file a personal injury lawsuit and, ultimately, receive compensation for multiple inconveniences including painful injuries and medical bills.
