Firebaugh, CA – Two Tractor-Trailers Involved in Accident on 5 Freeway at Nees Avenue
Firebaugh, CA (August 14, 2018) – The California Highway Patrol reported a collision that transpired between two large commercial big rigs that occurred on the Interstate 5 Freeway at or in the vicinity of the Nees Avenue off-ramp. The crash which was reported to have resulted in injuries took place at approximately 6:49 a.m. on Tuesday morning.
Following the collision, one of the big rig drivers ended up trapped inside their tractor-trailer and required extrication. Personnel from the fire department were called to the scene to assist the injured parties and successfully removed the pinned victim from their vehicle. The manner in which this accident transpired, however, was not made available in the report.
At least one victim was reported to have incurred injuries that were described as very serious. Emergency medical personnel immediately transported the victim to a local hospital for treatment. The names of those involved and whether or not the other driver suffered any injuries has not been stated at this time.
No further information has been provided regarding the cause of the collision. The initial investigation at the scene prompted the closing of the number one and number two lanes of the freeway for several hours. Authorities are currently continuing the investigation.
