What You Should Do After Being Injured In A Hit-And-Run in California

There’s nothing worse than getting in a car accident – except when the other driver leaves the scene. In California, it is illegal to do this. If you are in an accident, and the other driver flees before you get any information, contact an experienced car accident attorney as soon as possible.

The only exception to the rule of not leaving the scene is if the driver left to seek immediate medical attention, however even in this situation, it is still smart to leave a contact name and phone number.

You should call 911 after safely moving your vehicle to the side of the road if you are able to do so. Try to remember every detail, including:

  • Make and model of the car that hit you
  • The car’s color
  • The car’s license plate number
  • Any unique identifiers, such as bumper stickers, dents, or chipped paint
  • The driver’s appearance
  • All the small details about the crash you can recall

Collect your own evidence. Examine your car for any paint that may have chipped onto your car from the other vehicle. Document scrapes, dents, or bumps. Take photos from all angles to show the police

After the accident, contact an attorney to learn more about your options in case you are able to identify the other driver.
