Fresno County, CA – Man Killed and Several Injured in Fatal Car Crash on Shaw Avenue

Fresno County, CA (September 2, 2018) – According to a report filed by the California Highway Patrol, a 71-year-old man from Clovis was tragically killed following a head-on collision on Saturday night, September 1. The fatal crash which also injured four people took place on Shaw Avenue, west of Monroe Avenue at around 10:00 p.m.

The California Highway Patrol stated that the Clovis man had been traveling west on Shaw Avenue when his 2005 Chevrolet swerved into the oncoming lane for reasons that have not yet been determined. The report stated that the vehicle had been traveling at approximately 55 mph at the time.

The Chevrolet continued in the opposite lane and ultimately collided with a 2015 GMC that was heading eastbound on the same road. The impact of the collision caused the Chevrolet to overturn following the crash. The driver of the GMC, 41-year-old Carina Carillo Monroy of Woodland, along with the driver of the Chevrolet were both trapped in their vehicles due to the force of the accident.

Officials from the California Highway Patrol stated that the driver of the Chevrolet was pronounced dead at the scene while Monroy suffered multiple fractures in the collision. Jose Hernandez, 40, and two people in their 70’s were also in the GMC and sustained major injuries as well. All the injured victims were immediately taken to Community Regional Medical Center.

No further information has been released, and it is unknown as to whether or not alcohol or drugs were involved. The name of the deceased victim is being withheld until family members can be notified. The cause of this collision is currently under investigation.
