Gasquet, CA – Victims identified from Smith River crash along Hwy 199
Gasquet, CA (March 16, 2019) – Casey Wagoner, 17, and Madrone “Brook” Jackson, 19, both of Grants Pass area, have been identified as the victims involved in a serious crash into the Smith River. The crash was along the Smith River along Highway 199 in Gasquet, California on Thursday, March 14.
California Highway Patrol received an emergency call around 11:30 a.m. that a car had lost control and plunged the car into the river at mile marker 19.6.
Tragically, the two victims did not make it out of the car.
The automobile involved was a white Volkswagen Jetta. The driver was a male, with the female passenger placed in the right front-side.
The crash occurred when the highway opened to two lanes in each direction. The Jetta had moved into the left lane when the driver lost control and moved right, across the southbound lanes of US-199 and then off the roadway, down an embankment, then ultimately hitting a large tree. The car then plunged into the Smith River, where it was totally submerged under water.
Both the driver and the passenger passed away from injuries obtained in the crash.
The accident is still under investigation.
Above all else, we would like to extend our sincere condolences to the family and friends of Casey Wagoner and Madrone “Brook” Jackson, whose lives were taken too soon this horrific accident.
