Gilroy, CA – Authorities Identify Victim Killed during Deadly Collision between Van and Semi-Truck on Northbound Highway 101 near Old Monterey Road

Gilroy, CA (August 14, 2018) – A local news source recently provided updated information concerning the victim who died during a deadly accident involving a van and a semi-truck that took place along the northbound lanes of Highway 101, in the vicinity of Old Monterey Road. The collision happened at approximately 7:50 AM in the morning on Monday, August 13, 2018. As of today, authorities have identified the deceased victim as 56-year old Castroville resident Juan Sosa Santos and the van driver as 33-year old Salinas resident Jimenez Sosa. No details about a second passenger in the van or the truck driver have been revealed at this time.

According to the initial report, Sosa had been driving a 2012 Ford van along Highway 101 and did not see a Peterbilt semi-truck heading down the north lane. At one point, the Ford swerved towards the truck and plowed into the left rear portion of the larger vehicle.

Sadly, authorities confirmed Santos had succumbed to his injuries and died at the crash site.

Meanwhile, Sosa, the second van passenger, and the truck driver sustained less severe injuries in the crash. Sometime later, the three victims were brought to Regional Medical Center in San Jose to receive treatment of non-life threatening injuries sustained during the crash.

As part of the initial investigation, police shut down Highway 101 for a total of two hours.

Presently, officials are looking into a possible cause for the crash.
