Goleta, CA – Two Women Injured after Deadly Traffic Accident along Highway 101 near El Capitan Ranch Road

Goleta, CA (August 9, 2018) – A local news source reported two women sustained severe injuries as the result of a deadly traffic collision that took place along Highway 101 in the vicinity of El Capitan Ranch Road. The accident occurred at approximately 2:20 PM in the afternoon on Wednesday, August 8, 2018. As of today, authorities have identified the wrong-way driver as 55-year old Lompoc resident Sarah Bernice Yates. No detailed information about the other drivers and passengers involved in the crash has been revealed at this time.

Based on a report from the California Highway Patrol, Yates had been driving an as-of-yet unidentified vehicle the wrong way across 101. At some point, she plowed into an oncoming pickup truck hauling a travel trailer on the south lanes of the highway. As a result of the crash, the pickup spun out of control and slid into the El Capitan Ranch off-ramp.

The report confirmed Yates drove for an additional 100 yards before slamming head-on into an unidentified third vehicle.

Sometime later, medical personnel brought Yates to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital to receive treatment of severe injuries.

Meanwhile, a woman from Atascadero who had occupied the third vehicle suffered severe injuries as a result of the impact.

The driver and passenger of the pickup truck, as well as the driver of the third vehicle, did not sustain any injuries.

As of now, the investigation is ongoing.

We extend our most heartfelt prayers and most loving thoughts to the victims of the crash and wish them swift and efficient recoveries from their injuries.

Traffic Accident in Santa Barbara County

As the report reveals, Yates had been driving the wrong way on the southbound lanes of 101 and ultimately caused the multi-vehicle collision. However, the circumstances surrounding this incident remain a mystery at this point. Forensic teams will inspect Yates’ vehicle, the pickup truck, and the third vehicle and examine photos of the crash site to determine if mechanical failure or system failure ultimately caused the crash. Officials will also consider if drugs, alcohol, negligence, recklessness, or distracted driving contributed to the accident in any way.

Non-guilty victims of a violent multi-vehicle accident can ultimately file a personal injury lawsuit against the culprit and, as a result, receive compensation for inconveniences including medical bills and painful injuries.
