Gorman, CA – Major Multi-Vehicle Pileup on Interstate 5 Leaves Several Injured

Gorman, CA (March 24, 2019) – Several people were injured after a huge multi-vehicle crash on the southbound Interstate 5 Freeway. The pileup occurred Saturday, March 23rd, shortly before 3:00 p.m.

Between 25 to 50 vehicles were involved in this accident and over 30 injured victims were treated on the scene. 22 people suffered minor injuries, seven suffered moderate injuries, and a 22-month-old child needed to be airlifted to a local hospital in critical condition.

The accident was totally unexpected for the drivers involved. Weather may have played a role, as fog and rain were covering the area, making visibility an issue. Most victims were able to get out of their mangled vehicles that were tossed across the freeway.

As well, a horse being transported inside a trailer died from the crash, while two other horses were okay.

The first crash caused a chain reaction, which led to two subsequent traffic accidents. One of these collisions involved over a dozen vehicles.

Traffic remained at a standstill and several cars were engulfed in flames. However, all fires were extinguished.

The crash was located near Gorman School Road, and the southbound freeway, between Frazier Mountain Road and Gorman Road, was shut down. Lanes reopened at 6:35 p.m.

Emergency crews were on scene assisting.

We hope the injured victims fully recover and are surrounded by loved ones during their healing process.

Adjusting to Weather and Road Conditions

Out of six million car accidents that happen every year in the U.S., approximately 22% are weather-related. Nearly 6,000 people are killed and another 445,000 injured due to these accidents. However, the same negligence law that applies to any car accident also pertains to accidents in bad weather.

As part of the defensive driving program, you need to adjust to weather and road conditions. Driving without taking weather and road conditions as a factor often leads to accidents, many of which are can be prevented.

When an accident occurs in bad weather, especially when it causes a chain reaction crash it can cause multiple injuries as well as property damage.

As well, drivers need to reduce speed on slippery roads and allow more clearance between vehicles. And no matter how safely you drive, another driver may still hit you and cause serious injury. If you were injured in a car accident that happened in inclement weather that you believe was the fault of the other driver, you need the assistance of an experienced car accident attorney.
