How Do Car Accidents Compare To Motorcycle Accidents In California?
Motorcycles are more dangerous than cars; in fact, that’s why many riders drive them. Motorcycles account for 3 percent of all vehicles on the road, yet they make up a disproportionate number of traffic deaths and injuries.
Motorcycle and car accidents are often both caused by speeding and/or alcohol. There are more than 11 million car accidents each year. Causes of these accidents are driver error, weather, road issues, and tire or brake failure.
Common causes of car accidents include:
- Distracting driving. 25% of all car accidents are related to cell phones.
- Driver fatigue. 2.5% and 3.0% of traffic fatalities are caused by falling asleep at the wheel.
- Alcohol and/or speeding.
- Aggressive driving.
Common causes of motorcycle accidents:
- Car making a left-hand turn.
- Lane splitting.
- Speeding and alcohol use.
- Collision with a fixed object.
- Road hazards.
