Hesperia CA- Child Injured in School Bus Crash With Bike Near Fairburn St. and Peach Ave.

Hesperia, CA (April 12, 2019)- A bicycle and school bus collision near Fairburn Street and Peach Avenue left a 10-year-old boy with fractures and a facial injury. The accident happened on Wednesday at around 2:44 pm.

According to Officer Osegueda of the Victorville branch of the California Highway Patrol, the boy was riding his bike eastward on Fairburn as the school bus drove northward on Peach Avenue. A stop sign exists for westbound and eastbound traffic, but northbound and southbound traffic does not have a stop sign.

The CHP reported that the boy did not stop his bike at the stop sign on the southwestern cross of the intersection, but continued through the intersection at approximately 10 miles per hour. This caused him to crash into the left side of the school bus.

37 children were on board the bus when the crash occurred. A second bus was called to transport the children to their school. None of the children on the bus were injured in the crash.

The 10-year-old bicyclist received facial injuries and a number of fractures. San Bernardino County Fire Helicopter H325 picked up the victim at Ranchero Middle School. He was taken to the trauma center at Loma Linda University Medical Center.
