Indio, CA – Fatal Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 10 Freeway

Indio, CA (February 13, 2019) – Early Saturday morning, police responded to a fatal pedestrian accident that took place around 2:45 a.m. on the Interstate 10 Freeway just west of Jackson Street.

The California Highway Patrol responded to a report of what they thought was an animal that had been struck by a vehicle in the westbound lanes on Interstate 10 in the early morning hours of February 9th.  When they arrived on the scene, they quickly discovered that a pedestrian had been hit by the Honda and the victim was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The driver of the Honda claimed that he did not realize that he had struck a pedestrian. He reported that he struck a large object in the road and drove himself home. Witnesses called the police and told them that debris left by an animal was left all over the road, not knowing that a pedestrian had been struck.

Police closed down the roadway for about three hours while they worked on their investigation. It continues at this time.  California Highway Patrol is searching for any witnesses or for anyone who may have information about the incident to call CHP Officer Dyer at 760-772-5300.
