La Mesa, CA – One Dead, One Injured after Violent Two-Vehicle Traffic Accident along Riviera Drive near Spring Street and Highway 94
La Mesa, CA (August 14, 2018) – San Diego local news sources reported that one victim died and another sustained injuries as the result of a violent two-vehicle traffic accident that took place along Riviera Drive, in the vicinity of Spring Street and Highway 94. The collision occurred at approximately 7:45 AM in the morning on Tuesday, August 14, 2018. At this time, no detailed information about the man and the woman involved in the crash has been revealed.
According to the report from La Mesa Police, a 1998 Toyota Camry had been traveling westbound on Riviera Drive when, for indeterminate reasons, it swerved into the path of opposing traffic. As a result, the Toyota crashed into the front of an oncoming 2000 Jeep Cherokee. Sometime later, firefighters and paramedics were dispatched to the crash site and discovered both drivers trapped in their vehicles. Officials successful extracted both victims from the wreckage.
Emergency personnel later confirmed the 40-year old driver of the Toyota died from injuries sustained during the impact.
Meanwhile, the 33-year old woman who had been driving the Jeep sustained non-life threatening injuries.
Afterward, investigators speculated that distracted driving may have caused the crash, as indicated by evidence collected at the crash site. Authorities have urged civilians holding information related to the collision to call the La Mesa Police Department at (619) 667-1400.
