Lafayette, CA – Bicyclist Dies during Violent Collision with Big Rig Truck on Reliez Valley Road near Withers Avenue
Lafayette, CA (August 3, 2018) – Local authorities sadly reported that a bicyclist died as the result of a violent collision with a big rig truck that took place on the 1800 block of Reliez Valley Road in the vicinity of Withers Avenue. Officers first logged the incident at approximately 12:28 PM in the afternoon on Thursday, August 2, 2018. At this time, no detailed information concerning the identities of the bicyclist or the truck driver has been revealed.
According to the initial report, an unidentified male bicyclist had been traveling along Reliez Valley Road and, for indeterminate reasons, was struck by a big rig truck near Withers. Shortly after, responding firefighters and paramedics rushed to the crash site and discovered the bicyclist lying along the main road. Paramedics administered on-site treatment to the rider and brought him to John Muir Medical Center in Walnut Creek, where he died from injuries sustained during the impact.

At approximately 1:07 PM in the afternoon, law enforcement officials released a SigAlert before shutting down Reliez Valley Road entry points at Attri Court and Withers Avenue. These routes were later opened up to traffic at 5:20 PM in the evening.
