Lake Elsinore, CA – CHP Officer Sgt. Steve Licon Dies In Motorcycle Crash

Lake Elsinore, CA (April 7, 2019) – A California Highway Patrol Officer passed away and at least two other victims were hurt in an accident on the 15 Freeway in Lake Elsinore on Saturday, April 6.

California Highway Patrol and the Riverside Fire Department responded to the scene of this fatal accident. According to CHP officers, the crash occurred about 4:30 p.m. north of Nichols Road.

The motorcycle officer who was killed in the incident was Sgt. Steve Licon. It is thought that Licon was hit by an “errant driver” while administering a traffic stop on the side shoulder of the freeway. His motorcycle looked like it was pinned between two cars. The driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence.

Emergency responders were called to the scene to render aid the injured parties. Two other people were transported to Inland Valley Regional Medical Center. The officer was airlifted to a hospital and where he died shortly after.

Dozens of police officers gathered to accompany the hearse that took Licon’s body to the Riverside County coroner’s office.
