Lake Elsinore, CA- Multiple Motorcycles Involved in Fatal Crash on Hwy 74
Lake Elsinore, CA (June 25, 2019)- A crash involving three motorcycles resulted in one death and two serious injuries on Sunday at approximately 10:50 am on Highway 74 near El Cariso Road, west of Hell’s Kitchen Motorsports Bar and Grill.
According to reports, 51-year-old Corona resident Tina Coats was a passenger on a 2008 Harley Davidson motorcycle operated by 62-year-old Corona resident Michael Zawicki. While riding westbound, Zawicki stopped when he encountered traffic backed up at the scene of an earlier accident.
While the bike ran idle, a 2015 Yamaha motorcycle and a 2018 Ducati motorcycle turned a bend in the road and encountered the stopped traffic.
While both motorcyclists braked, they were unable to stop completely, causing one of the motorcycles to crash into Zawicki’s bike. The force of this crash left Coats dead at the scene.
Zawicki was uninjured in the crash. Unfortunately, the drivers of the Yamaha and the Ducati, 60-year-old Aliso Viejo resident Faustino Ochoa and 51-year-old San Clemente resident Declan Kenny did suffer injuries.
In order to commence the investigation into the crash, Highway 74 was briefly closed in both directions.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of Tina Coats. Our thoughts are with them at this time.
Additionally, our thoughts are with Faustino Ochoa and Declan Kenny and their families. We hope for full recoveries.
NHTSA Motorcycle Facts for California
People involved in 80% of motorcycle crashes will sustain injuries or death, a National Highway Traffic Safety Administration stated. The NHTSA’s report noted that only 20% of people in car accidents will sustain injuries or death.
