Lebec, CA – Search and Rescue Volunteer Killed in Multi-Vehicle Crash

Lebec, CA (February 2, 2019) – A search and rescue volunteer from Ventura County was tragically killed in a multi-vehicle crash that took place this morning around 8:05 a.m.

The horrific accident happened on the 5 Freeway near the area of Pyramid Lake. The volunteer team member, whose name was not released, died at the scene of the accident while many others received serious injuries.

Authorities said that the team member was on their way to a training session for the volunteer job when they stopped to help somebody who had been involved in an accident. Police noted that heavy rains were beating down at the time.

The rescue member tragically died at the scene. Their name has not yet been released, as the family is being notified. Police continue their investigation of the accident.
