Common Motorcycle Crashes In California

There are many challenges and dangers that motorcyclists face when driving on the road. Because motorcyclists lack protection on their vehicles, they are more likely to suffer harsh or fatal injuries when in a collision. The following are the most common causes of motorcycle accidents:

  • Unsafe lane changes. A driver may collide with a motorcyclist when he or she doesn’t check his or her blind spot or signal when changing lanes.
  • Car doors. Some accidents take place when a driver opens the door of their parked vehicle in front of an oncoming motorcycle.
  • Speeding. Speeding reduces the chance of seeing and reacting to other drivers. The higher the speed, the larger the impact and the more horrific the consequences.
  • Driving under the influence.
  • Lane splitting.
  • Sudden stops. Rear-end accidents take place because of following too closely.
  • Inexperienced drivers. These drivers are more likely to make unsafe moves on the road.
  • Left turn accidents. Right of way errors while making a left turn are common causes of injury and even death for riders.
  • Dangerous roads. Potholes, debris, and unmarked signals or signs can increase a motorcycle rider’s chance of losing control.
  • Motorcycle defects. A poorly designed motorcycle can cause injuries or deaths arising from the defection.
