Long Beach, CA – One Killed in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident

Police Investigate Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident

Long Beach, CA (December 5, 2018) On the evening of December 4th, a hit-and-run pedestrian accident happened in the area of Lon Beach and Artesia boulevards. Around 10:20 p.m., a vehicle struck a pedestrian and failed to stop at the scene. When paramedics arrived at the scene to help, they found the pedestrian unresponsive on the roadway. After evaluating the injured victim, they confirmed that he suffered fatal injuries. The police are currently investigating the accident and searching for the driver responsible.

We send our condolences to the deceased pedestrian’s family as we understand how difficult it is to lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, especially if the accident was preventable.

Pedestrian Accidents in California

Studies show that the number of hit-and-run fatalities has increased by 7.2 percent each year since 2009. The reason drivers frequently strike pedestrians is almost always because of negligent driving. When drivers are speeding, driving under the influence, texting, falling asleep at the wheel, or partaking in any other distracting activity, they put pedestrians at risk. Drivers are responsible for allowing pedestrians to cross the roadway even if the driver has the right-of-way. It’s disappointing that the driver who struck the pedestrian in this accident failed to stop and help. Once the police find the driver responsible, the deceased pedestrian’s family can file a wrongful death lawsuit to help cover funeral expenses and other losses.
