Los Angeles, CA –57-Year-Old Christina Garcia Dies in Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accident on Hyperion Avenue
Los Angeles, CA (January 16, 2019) On the morning of January 16th, a fatal hit-and-run pedestrian accident happened along Hyperion Avenue in Silver Lake. According to the reports, 57-year-old Christina Garcia was struck by a sedan in the 1800 block of Hyperion Avenue and discovered by a passerby at 7:30 a.m. A surveillance video shows Garcia standing on the sidewalk collecting cans when she was hit.
The video shows the driver losing control of his vehicle due to wet roads and crashing into a parking sign and trash cans before striking Garcia. The vehicle proceeded traveling east before hitting two buildings and ejecting Garcia about 15 feet. Garcia was then trapped between the building and the vehicle until the driver got out to check the scene before driving off and leaving her there to suffer.
The vehicle has been described as a 2010 to 2012 Toyota Corolla with a missing driver’s side mirror that fell off at the crash site.
We are deeply saddened to know that Garcia lost her life in this collision. We send our condolences to her family as they work through this tragic time.
Hit-and-Run Pedestrian Accidents in California
Whenever vehicles strike pedestrians and fail to remain at the scene, it’s usually due to drivers fearing the consequences of their negligent actions. Most of the time drivers are under the influence, fatigued, or distracted when they hit pedestrians. Because there are extreme penalties for killing a pedestrian, drivers who are already criminals or who fear being arrested often drive away to avoid being caught.
Once the police find and arrest the driver responsible, Garcia’s family may be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit with the help of a California wrongful death attorney.
At Brady Law Group, we specialize in wrongful death lawsuits, which is how we’ve been able to help countless families obtain large settlements for the loss of their loved ones. No amount of money could replace the life of a loved one, but families still need compensation to help cover funeral expenses, loss of spousal support, and more.
