Why Street Racing Is So Dangerous
Illegal street racing is extremely dangerous. There are multiple reasons that street racing poses high risks.
Vehicles that are street racing are driving at very high speeds. Street racing vehicles often exceed 100 miles per hour and reach speeds of perhaps as much as 200 mph. The faster a car is driving, the more damage it does if it hits another vehicle, person, or object. Speeding cars are more prone to accidents because they are harder for drivers to control.
Street racing is often fueled with alcohol and other substances that can impair the ability of drivers. There is often a high amount of intoxicating substances consumed by street racing participants. Alcohol, marijuana, and other substances can impair one’s driving ability.
Collateral damage. When cars drive at very high speeds and then hit objects or other vehicles, these can cause destruction themselves. A car or truck hit can slide across lanes, causing injuries or even death.
Onlookers can be harmed. When people gather to watch street races and a spin-out or crash happens, debris may injure huge numbers of people.
Participants underestimate the danger. Street racing is powered by movies or video games in popular culture and on a screen, nobody gets hurt.
