Madera, CA – Three People Killed and Two Children Injured in Wrong-Way Crash on Highway 99
Madera, CA (July 29, 2018) – According to the California Highway Patrol, three people were killed in a motor vehicle accident that involved a wrong-way driver near Madera early on Sunday morning. The deadly wreck that took place on Highway 99, in the vicinity of Avenue 11 reportedly occurred a little before 3:00 a.m.
The three victims involved in the accident were identified as Samantha Pena, Catalina Barba, and Pablo Barba. Reports stated that 24-year-old Samantha Pena of Fresno was reportedly driving her 2010 Toyota Corolla north in the southbound lanes of Highway 99 when she crashed head-on into the 2006 Ford Explorer that was being driven by 67-year-old Pablo Barba of Orange Cove.
The Ford being driven by Pablo Barba apparently flipped over due to the impact of the collision. Pablo Barba and his passenger, 69-year-old Catalina Barba of Orange Cove, along with Pena were all pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. Valentin Barba, age 26, along with two young boys aged 12 and 13 were all passengers in the Ford at the time and had to be immediately taken a local hospital with very serious injuries.
The reason why Pena was driving the wrong way down the highway and caused this crash is currently unknown. Authorities are currently conducting a complete investigation.
