Man Hit, Killed by Vehicle in Sunnyvale, CA

Pedestrian Accident on El Camino Real Kills 1 Man

Sunnyvale, CA (June 17, 2018) –  A man was struck and killed by a vehicle early Saturday morning in Sunnyvale, California. According to local reports, the man was hit by the oncoming vehicle while attempting to cross a street.

The accident occurred on El Camino between Henderson Avenue and Poplar Avenue. First responders received notification of the accident around 5:15 that morning and were quickly dispatched to the scene.  

Upon arriving at the scene, law enforcement officials determined that a 67-year-old woman had been driving along the west lane of El Camino Real when she struck the man. The driver’s name has not been released to the public, and she sustained minor injuries during the crash.

Paramedics administered care to the pedestrian who was severely injured in the crash, but, despite their best efforts, the victim succumbed to their injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene. The victim’s name has not been released as of posting as authorities seek to inform the individual’s next of kin. Whether the victim had been within a designated crosswalk during the collision has not been determined.

As they administered care and documented the scene, law enforcement authorities closed down the westbound lanes between Poplar Avenue and Henderson Avenue of El Camino Real. Statements were taken from both witnesses and the driver to assist in the investigation into the accident.

After the accident was cleared, the westbound lanes reopened around 7 a.m. to the regular flow of traffic. An investigation is ongoing into the nature of the accident.
