Merced, CA – Three People Injured In Traffic Collision On Highway 140 Near Quinley Ave.

Merced, CA (June 8, 2019) – A multi-vehicle accident occurred on June 8 at 12:35 p.m., that sent three people to the hospital.

Judith Sandoval, 20, of La Selva Beach, was traveling in a Toyota 2008 RAV4 west on Highway 140. Maria Leon, 38, of Merced was moving in her 2005 Chevy Astro van east on Highway 140. Sandoval then made a left turn into a private driveway, which put her in the path of Leon and the two vehicles hit near Quinley Avenue.

Emergency responders were called to the scene to render aid the injured drivers.  The injured parties were transported to local hospitals for treatment and further evaluation.

We send healing thoughts to the injured parties and their families. Our thoughts are with them all during this difficult time as we hope for a full recovery.

Types Of Collisions In California

The most common types of crashes resulting from negligence are the following:

Rear-impact — Rear-ending or similar rear-impact collisions are the most frequent type of collision — 29.6 percent of all accidents are rear-impact. Mostly, these types of crashes have to do with misuse of brakes, defective brakes or following too closely to another vehicle.

Side-impact — Side-impact accidents make up 28.9 percent of all collisions. These often happen when drivers change lanes without looking in their mirrors or run a red traffic light or stop sign.

Run-off — Run-offs are also frequent, with 16.1 percent of all automobile collisions. They usually take place in only one car. The driver is distracted, falls asleep, or swerves to avoid hitting an animal or object on the road.

Rollovers — Rollovers are less frequent, only making up 2.3 percent of all crashes. They often take place due to sharp turns, especially with tall vehicles such as trucks or SUVs. Rollovers can also happen because of the high-impact rear, side or head-on accidents.

Head-on collisions — Even though head-on crashes only make up 2 percent of all accidents, they can cause the gravest injuries and extensive property damage. They often happen when a driver drives down a one-way street in the wrong direction, moves the wrong entrance on a highway or crosses a double line while asleep at the wheel or under the influence.
