Merced, California – Bicyclist Injured after Collision with Tanker Truck at East Childs Avenue Bridge
Merced, California (June 29, 2018) – Local sources indicated a bicyclist was injured as a result of a collision with a tanker truck that took place at the East Childs Avenue Bridge on Highway 99 in Merced. The incident occurred at approximately 5:40 PM on the evening of Thursday, June 28, 2018. Authorities have not revealed any detailed information concerning the identities of the female bicyclist or the truck driver at this time.
Merced police reported that the woman was riding her bike eastbound down the bridge on Highway 99. For indeterminate reasons, she lost control of the bicycle and slid through a stop sign. At the same time, the driver of the tanker truck was attempting to turn left from the off-ramp of Highway 99. Without warning, the tanker struck the woman, who was pinned beneath the truck’s rear axles as a result of the impact.
Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the bicyclist to a nearby hospital to receive treatment for injuries to the head and some road rash. Medical personnel have not revealed the extent of the woman’s injuries or her current condition.
As per the report, officers confirmed the driver of the tanker truck remained at the crash site and cooperated with authorities. AS of now, the investigation is ongoing. As more evidence begins to surface, more information will be released to public sources.
