Merced County, CA – One Dead and Three Injured in Fatal Head-On Accident on Shaffer Road

Merced County, CA (January 10, 2019) On the morning of January 10th, a fatal head-on accident took place at the intersection in Winton, California.

One person lost their life and three additional people were injured in the crash that occurred at approximately 6 am in the morning at the intersection of Mercedes Ave and Shaffer Rd.

According to the reports, and SUV was driving north on Shaffer Rd in thick fog when it tried to pass the car in front of him.  He steered the SUV into the southbound lane to pass the vehicle.  The fog was very thick and he apparently did not see the oncoming vehicle being driven by a man in his mid-sixties.   The two vehicles crashed in a violent fatal head-on collision.

The sixty-five-year-old man lost his life in the tragic crash and was pronounced dead at the scene.  When emergency crews arrived at the scene to help, they found four additional people suffering from injuries and transported them to a nearby hospital for treatment of their injuries.  The accident is currently under investigation.

We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the 65-year-old-man who tragically lost his life as a result of this a completely avoidable accident.  Our thoughts are with all of the victims who were injured in this horrific crash and we hope for their complete and swift recoveries.

Head-On Collisions in California

Head-on collisions almost always result in catastrophic injuries and sometimes even death.  They are especially prevalent in bad weather.  Recent studies show that out of the six million accidents that happen every year in the United States, 22 percent of them are weather-related. Studies also show that about 445,000 people are injured every year in accidents caused by bad weather. It’s vital for all drivers to drive responsibly at all times, but especially when it’s raining or snowing outside. When drivers decide to partake in negligent behavior under hazardous weather conditions, they’re putting themselves and others at serious risk.

Once the police finish their investigation, it’s possible that the deceased victim’s family will be able to file a wrongful death lawsuit and that the other injured parties may be qualified to file personal injury lawsuits.
