Merced County, CA – Motorcyclist Dies and Passenger is Seriously Injured Crash on Hwy 140

Merced County, CA (April 2, 2019) – On Friday around 1:30 p.m., police were called to the scene of a fatal motorcycle accident that took place on Highway 140.

At the time, the motorcyclist identified as 37-year-old Douglas Mitchell was operating a Harley-Davidson motorcycle near Howard Road on the highway. For reasons that are not yet known, Mitchell drifted close to the shoulder of the highway and was involved in a crash, where he then struck a pole.

There was a passenger on the back of the motorcycle identified as 38-year-old Bessie Mitchell. They were both seriously injured with Douglas Mitchell’s being so severe that he did not survive and was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  Bessie Mitchell was transported to the hospital with major injuries.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
