Merced County, CA – Two Passengers Severely Injured after Single-Vehicle Crash and Suspected DUI along Merced Fall Road near Highway 59

Merced County, CA (July 29, 2018) – A Merced local news source reported that a single-vehicle crash and suspected DUI incident took place along Merced Fall Road in the vicinity of Highway 59. The incident occurred at some time in the morning on Sunday, July 29, 2018. Authorities have identified the driver as 18-year old Merced resident Fabian Michael Cervantes and one of his passengers as 18-year old Miriam Edith Willis. The identity of the second passenger, a 17-year old, has not been released at this time.

According to initial reports, Cervantes had been driving an unidentified vehicle westbound down Merced Falls when, for indeterminate reasons, he lost control and crashed.

Reports confirmed Willis suffered traumatic injuries during the impact and was hospitalized for treatment of breaks to her leg and ribs and superficial injuries to her face. Meanwhile, the 17-year old passenger had broken some teeth in the crash. The current conditions of both victims have not been released.

Authorities speculate Cervantes had consumed alcohol prior to operating the vehicle and was arrested on charges of driving under the influence.
