Milpitas, CA- Fiery Crash Involving Inmate Bus on Highway 880 Near Brokaw Rd.

Milpitas, CA (April 19, 2019)- According to the California Highway Patrol, a crash involving a sheriff’s bus carrying inmates resulted in injuries as well as another vehicle catching fire on Thursday.

The chain-reaction crash occurred at 7:24 am on Highway 880 southbound near Brokaw Road. In addition to the Santa Clara County Sheriff’s inmate bus, a silver Toyota Prius, a black Honda Accord, and two other vehicles were involved in the crash.

Following the crash, the Prius caught fire and was destroyed. The driver and passengers of the Prius were uninjured.

Five inmates sustained minor injuries in the crash and were transported to the hospital. The rest of the inmates were uninjured.

The accident required the closure of four lanes on Highway 880 southbound until 9 am.

An investigation into the crash is underway.
