Mission Viejo, CA – Mike Kreza Critically Injured Bike Accident Involving Intoxicated Driver on Alicia Pkwy
Mission Viejo, CA (November 4, 2018) – Officials have confirmed a Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue Captain was hit and severely injured by an intoxicated driver Saturday morning in Mission Viejo. The crash transpired at approximately 8:00 am Saturday morning, November 3rd, on Alicia Pkwy near Via Burgos.
Captain Mike Kreza was reportedly riding his bicycle traveling eastbound on Alicia Pkwy when he was struck by a van driven by Stephen Taylor Scarpa. Sometime later, firefighters responded to the crash site and rendered aid to Kreza who sustained life-threatening injuries. He was then taken to a local trauma center, where he was listed in critical condition.
Kreza, an 18-year veteran of the Costa Mesa Fire & Rescue Department, was off-duty at the time the accident occurred. According to investigators, Scarpa stopped his vehicle after the collision took place. Police arrested him on suspicion of felony DUI.
