Nevada City, California – One Dead, One Injured after Fatal Traffic Accident on Highway 20

Nevada City, California (July 5, 2018) – Local news sources reported that a fatal traffic accident took place on Highway 20, in the vicinity of Chalk Bluff Road. The incident occurred at approximately 6:52 PM in the evening on Tuesday, July 3, 2018. Authorities have identified the deceased victim as 71-year old Eve Karoblis-Mabe, a resident of Grass Valley. Sources confirmed that Karoblis-Mabe was the passenger in a vehicle driven by 71-year old Edward Mabe. Meanwhile, the second driver has been identified as 50-year old Rick Caffey, a resident of Grass Valley.

Based on the report, Edward Mabe was driving a 1994 GMC Sierra westbound on Highway 20, while Rick Caffey was driving a 1998 Honda Civic eastbound down the same route. Sources indicate Caffey averted his eyes from the roadway as he tried to grasp something in his vehicle. As a result, the Honda slowly veered into westbound traffic and collided with the GMC. Ultimately, the Sierra overturned, while the Honda slowly stopped in the eastbound lane.

Medical personnel confirmed that Eve Karoblis-Mabe had died after the crash. Meanwhile, Edward Mabe was transported via air ambulance to Sutter Roseville Medical Center, where he received treatment for severe injuries.

Caffey did not sustain injuries during the accident.
