Nipomo, CA – Two People Injured after Wrong-Way Collision and Suspected DUI on Highway 101

Nipomo, CA (August 6, 2018) – A local news source reported that two victims sustained injuries as the result of a wrong-way collision and a suspected DUI incident that took place along the northbound lanes of Highway 101. Officials first logged the incident at approximately 1:28 AM in the early morning hours on Friday, August 3, 2018. Authorities have identified the suspect driver as 25-year old Emmett Hill and the victim driver as 49-year old Lompoc resident Jonathan Newell.

Based on the initial report, Hill had been driving a 2010 Toyota at an unsafe rate of speed in the southbound direction on the north lanes of 101. At the same time, Newell was driving a 2006 Ford along the northbound lanes. Without warning, Hill’s Toyota slammed into the front of the oncoming vehicle.

Sometime later, medical personnel transported Newell to Arroyo Grande Hospital, where he received treatment for non-life threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, Hill, who had been trapped inside the wreckage, was extracted and sent to Marian Regional Medical Center in Santa Maria. The extent of his injuries was not immediately disclosed.

According to police reports, Hill had been arrested for potential DUI. Officers have instructed civilians holding valuable information related to the accident to call (805) 594-8700 at the CHP San Luis Obispo Office.

We extend our most heartfelt prayers and most loving thoughts to Mr. Jonathan Newell during this difficult time and wish him a swift and efficient recovery from his injuries.

DUI Accident in San Luis Obispo County

By state law, DUI is considered a serious offense that can ultimately result in severe punishment based on blood-alcohol toxicity, the brutality of the crash, and the extent of injuries sustained by victims. Based on this information, it is apparent that Mr. Hill could be held responsible for causing the wrong-way crash and inflicting injuries on another driver.

Mr. Newell may have the right to file a personal injury lawsuit against the culprit, pending the results of the case.
