Oakland, CA – Hit and Run Accident Injures Woman and Baby on International Blvd
Oakland, CA (November 30, 2018) – On Wednesday, shortly before 11:30 in the afternoon, a hit and run accident on the 4800 block of International Boulevard left a woman and her baby hospitalized.
According to initial police reports, a car stopped for the 24-year-old woman who was attempting to cross the street while holding her small, one-year-old nephew. A car traveling down International Boulevard from the other direction, however, did not stop as they should have and struck the two pedestrians in the roadway. The woman was launched into the air and landed on one side of the vehicle and the boy rolled and landed on the other side of the same vehicle. They were returning from a grocery shopping trip at the La Colmena Produce Market before the incident occurred. Both of the victims received immediate medical transport to a nearby hospital for treatment for their injuries. Police are still searching for the driver, who did not remain at the scene to render aid as he should have and instead fled the scene.
The investigation is still ongoing at this time. Anyone with information is urged to please contact the police at 510-777-8570.
California Hit and Run Accidents
In the state of California, hit and run accidents can be charged as either misdemeanor or as felonies. If the damage caused is property damage then the driver is most likely looking at a misdemeanor charge. If the accident resulted in serious bodily harm or death, however, the driver is likely to be charged with a felony. According to the laws in California, a driver involved in an accident in which another person is in any way injured or killed has certain obligations that they must meet. They must stop their vehicle and remain at the scene until the authorities arrive, they are required to exchange all necessary information with the other driver involved in the accident, and are required to provide reasonable help to the injured party. In most instances, this means calling for medical assistance. These laws apply to all drivers involved in the accident, not just the one who was at fault.
