Oceanside, CA – Aquilino Ojeda and Ray Herrera Injured in Coast Highway Crash
Oceanside, CA (February 8, 2019) – 82-year-old Aquilino Ojeda and Ray Herrera were seriously injured in a DUI crash that took place on the Coast Highway in Oceanside. The accident took place on Tuesday afternoon and also led to the fatalities of three others.
The accident took place around 2:50 p.m. in the area of Oceanside Boulevard and the Coast Highway. At the time, a 2003 Mazda was traveling east on the highway and went through the intersection with Coast Highway when it was suddenly struck by a 2007 Toyota.
The Mazda spun out of control and a woman and a 13-year-old child were ejected from the vehicle. The woman who was ejected, as well as two others who have not yet been identified, died at the scene of the accident.
Ojeda and Herrera were in the front seat and were pinned inside the vehicle. They were extricated and taken to the hospital with a variety of serious injuries. The teenager remains hospitalized at this time.
Police established that the Mazda driver was driving under the influence at the time. Police continue to investigate the circumstances of the crash.
