Oceanside, California – Pedestrian Dies after Fatal Accident on 5 Freeway near Cockleburr Road

Oceanside, California (July 2, 2018) – Local San Diego news sources reported that a fatal pedestrian accident took place on the Interstate 5 Freeway, near the Cockleburr Road overpass. The incident occurred at roughly 4:20 AM in the early morning on Saturday, June 30, 2018. As of now, authorities have not revealed any detailed information concerning the identities of the deceased male pedestrian or the female motorist involved in the accident at this time.

Based on initial reports, the pedestrian was attempting to cross the Interstate 5 Freeway Lanes. At the same time, the driver of the 1999 Mitsubishi was traveling northbound on the same route. When the man changed course from eastward to the westward, he was clipped by the oncoming vehicle near the Cockleburr overpass.

First responders were dispatched to the crash site and found the man lying by the interstate. Medical personnel reported he succumbed to traumatic injuries sustained during the impact and died. Officials have not indicated if he died at the scene or in a hospital setting.

The female motorist was uninjured and remained at the crash site to cooperate with officers, as ordained.
