Multi-Car Crash Under Investigation
Oxnard, CA (December 5, 2018) In the early morning of December 4th, a multi-car crash happened at the intersection of Gonzales Road and Oxnard Boulevard. According to the reports, the accident happened at around 4:00 a.m. when a vehicle failed to yield at a traffic stop near South Rose Avenue and East Wooley Road. A police car then pursued the vehicle and tried to get the driver to pull over. Somehow the two vehicles collided and caused both drivers injuries. The police officer suffered a leg injury while the other driver suffered minor injuries. Investigators are working to determine causation and liability.
We hope both drivers recover quickly from their injuries as we know how painful and costly extensive treatment can be.
Vehicle Accidents in California
Studies show that over 160,000 automobile accidents happen every year in California. The increasing numbers of accidents is concerning as more drivers and passengers are put at risk. The leading cause of most accidents is negligent behavior, which includes speeding, driving impaired, using a cell phone, and any other activity that derails a driver’s focus off the road. The police are currently investigating this accident to determine if negligence played a role. If so, the police officer could file a personal injury lawsuit to receive compensation for damages and losses.
The state of California follows the doctrine of comparative negligence if both parties are held liable. Under this doctrine, all liable parties will hold a percentage of responsibility relative to the degree of fault. If the police officer is considered liable for his own damages, then the compensation he’ll receive will reduce.
