Patterson and Wilmington Residents Killed in Wrong-Way Crash on Interstate 5 in Los Banos
Los Banos, California (June 21, 2018) – Recent news reports revealed a man and a woman were killed in a deadly wrong-way crash on Interstate 5, near Henry Miller Avenue, at 11:30 PM on Wednesday, June 20, 2018. The deceased include a 26-year old Bakersfield man and a 36-year old female passenger. At present, their identities have not yet been released to the public.
However, sources have identified the two individuals involved in the accident as 34-year old Patterson resident Humberto Tovar and 44-year old Wilmington resident Julio Gamboa. Ultimately, both of their vehicles collided with the victims’ car, resulting in the couple’s untimely deaths.
Sources indicate the accident first took place when Patterson was driving his 2008 Nissan down the wrong way on Interstate 5’s No. 1 lane. Without warning, his vehicle plowed into the 2018 Toyota holding the Bakersfield couple. As a result of the impact, the Toyota careened into the No. 2 lane, where it was hit by Gamboa’s 2016 Freightliner. Authorities revealed that the couple died on the scene, due to the fact that they had not been wearing safety belts.
Police reports disclosed that Gamboa did not sustain injuries during the crash. Meanwhile, Tovar was transported to Doctors Medical Center in Modesto, where he received treatment for serious injuries. Law enforcement has suspected Tovar may have been drinking alcohol prior to the incident, and he may face charges for DUI.
We offer our deepest condolences to the families of the Bakersfield couple. Our warmest thoughts and most loving prayers go with them during this difficult time.
