Phelan, CA – Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Interstate 15 Freeway
Phelan, CA (December 2, 2018) On the 2nd of January, a fatal pedestrian accident happened on the Interstate 15 Freeway, just south of Oak Hills Road. According to the reports, multiple vehicles struck 22-year-old John Zacarius who was seen running in lanes on the southbound side of the freeway. When the paramedics arrived at the scene to help, they found Zacarius dead on the highway. It’s unclear if the pedestrian’s car broke down and he was trying to reach the opposite end of the freeway to exit, or if another issue was the reason. However, the police are currently investigating the accident to determine who will be held liable.
We send our condolences to the Zacarius’ family as we know it’s never easy to lose a loved one in a pedestrian accident, especially if the accident could have been avoided.
Pedestrian Accidents in California
Unfortunately, there are many reasons why thousands of pedestrians lose their lives every year in California. The leading cause is drivers not looking out for pedestrians even though they’re required to by California Law. The law states that all vehicles must yield as they approach pedestrians no matter who has the right of way. Unfortunately, most of the time drivers are too distracted to do so. However, there are some cases where pedestrians are partially liable for causing an accident. Some instances include pedestrians walking in the street at night while wearing dark clothing.
The police are currently investigating this accident to determine if all of the drivers will be held liable for striking and killing Zacarius. There’s a possibility that Zacarius’ family could file a wrongful death lawsuit with the help of a California wrongful death lawyer.
