Phelan, CA – Wimol Gonzalez Dies in Fatal Head-On Collision on Palmdale Road

Phelan, CA (January 23, 2019) On the evening of January 22^nd, a fatal head-on collision happened on state Route 18, also known as Palmdale Road. According to the reports, a 2018 Nissan Sentra was trying to pass a semi-tractor trailer truck but crashed into a silver 2017 GMC pickup truck instead, just west of Sheep Creek Road. A witness stated that both drivers of the Nissan and GMC tried swerving onto the dirt to avoid hitting each other, but still collided. A 56-year-old passenger in the Nissan named Wimol Gonzalez suffered fatal injuries.

When emergency crews arrived, they found Gonzalez dead and four others injured. One of the four victims suffered major injuries and was airlifted to a trauma center for treatment. The other three injured victims were transported to nearby hospitals. There were also two dogs in the GMC truck, a German Shepherd and a Yorkie. Unfortunately, the Yorkie suffered broken legs as a result of the crash.

The California Highway Patrol is currently investigating this accident.
