Seat Belt Statistics in California
It is an obvious fact that seat belts save lives. When used properly, wearing a seat belt reduces the risk of fatalities to front seat passengers by 45 percent, and the risk of severe injury by 50 percent. For those riding in the rear seats of vans or SUVs in a car accident, rear seat belts are 73 percent better to prevent fatalities. Unfortunately, victims are often not properly restrained in more than one-half of all fatal car crashes. As well, children are more likely to be buckled 92 percent of the time as opposed to the 72 percent of the time adults do not use them.
