Ramona, CA – Driver Involved in Hit-and-Run Accident Arrested for Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Highland Valley Road near Handlebar Road
Ramona, CA (August 15, 2018) – Recently, authorities arrested a male driver who was accused of involvement in a hit-and-run accident resulting in the death of a female pedestrian on Highland Valley Road, in the vicinity of Handlebar Road. The deadly incident transpired at approximately 8:30 PM at night on Monday, August 13, 2018. As of today, officers identified the suspect driver as 25-year old Ramona resident Daniel Juarez. No details about the female victim have been released at this time.
According to the initial report from the California Highway Patrol, the woman had been walking along the east lane on Highland Valley Road. At the same time, Juarez was driving a 2000 Lincoln Navigator down the same route when, without warning, he plowed into the victim.
Officials sadly pronounced the woman dead at the scene.
Authorities revealed that Juarez did not render aid to the victim and drove away from the crash site. Later, officers discovered his abandoned vehicle in the parking lot of a local supermarket on the 14000 block of Main Street. At approximately 3:00 AM on Tuesday, August 14, police located Juarez and took him into custody.
CHP affirmed Juarez was sent to the San Diego Central Jail for possible charges of felony hit-and-run, vehicular manslaughter, and violation of probation.
