Redding, CA – Genero Maravilla Injured in Pedestrian Accident While in His Electric Wheelchair on Willis St.
Redding, CA (January 15, 2019) – Police reported that 54-year-old Genaro Maravilla was struck by a vehicle when he was riding his electric wheelchair across the street.
At the time, Maravilla had been riding south in his wheelchair on Willis Street. Police say that he didn’t stop at the intersection with Placer Street, which is when he was struck by a vehicle that was traveling west at the intersection.
The driver, 81-year-old Joan Moynihan said that she was unable to avoid hitting the victim in his wheelchair. She said that traffic was heavy at the time when the wheelchair went onto the road.
Maravilla was struck so forcefully that he was sent falling out of his wheelchair and onto the road. This caused him to suffer serious injuries. He was quickly transported to the Mercy Medical Center by ambulance.
Police are still taking a closer look at the circumstances that led to this accident.
While police review this accident to determine liability, we would like to extend our sincere sympathies to the pedestrian who was injured. We hope that he will receive a full recovery.
Pedestrian Accidents in CaliforniaÂ
Around 32% of pedestrian accidents take place at intersections in California, many of which will either lead to serious injuries or fatalities on our roads. These accidents take place for a variety of reasons such as distracted driving, drunk driving, and speeding. Sometimes, the accidents are the fault of the driver who was not paying attention, and other times they happen due to outside forces such as the pedestrian not being seen at night or unmarked crosswalks. Drivers have a responsibility to stop for pedestrians who are crossing the roads, which is why you might need the experienced help of a California pedestrian accident attorney during this difficult time.
At this time, a full investigation of the accident continues to take place, as these accidents require an investigative team so that the pedestrian can move forward with a claim. You have a right to compensation so that you can move forward on physical, emotional, and financial levels.
