California’s Logging Truck Accidents
Did you know that the state of California is made up of 33 million acres of forestland? Industrial timber companies manage 5 million acres (14%) of that land. While 14% may not sound like a large amount, in the Sierra Nevada range and other parts of Northern California, the forest industry is a major employer. In these areas, it’s common to share the road with logging trucks.
Unfortunately, timber trucks are more likely to be involved in fatal truck accidents than other types of large trucks. According to a study by Virginia Tech, logging trucks are 25% more likely to roll over than other large trucks such as semi-trucks.
