Richmond, CA – Bicyclist Severely Injured after Suspected Hit-and-Run at 23rd Street and Downer Avenue
Richmond, California (July 10, 2018) – Local news sources reported that a suspected hit-and-run involving a bicyclist took place at the intersection of 23rd Street and Downer Avenue. The incident occurred at about 12:40 AM in the early morning on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Authorities have not revealed any detailed information concerning the identities of the people involved in the accident at this time.
According to the reports from Richmond Police, a male bicyclist was riding in the Richmond area when, for indeterminate reasons, an unidentified driver plowed into him at 23rd and Downer. Afterward, first responders reported the bicyclist had been flung to the ground and suffered an injury to his leg. The victim was transported to a nearby hospital and is currently in critical condition.
Law enforcement confirmed the driver did not remain at the crash site and continued northbound on 23rd Street. Officials have described the unidentified vehicle as a 4-door early 2000s Ford Crown Victoria, dark in color and missing one spotlight. It has been affirmed that two passengers had accompanied the driver in the car.
Authorities have also speculated the vehicle may be a retired security vehicle or police cruiser, due to the fact it has spotlights found on police cars. Law enforcement has also considered that the owner had replaced the rims from the original Ford model.
Officials have urged witnesses to call Richmond Police at (510) 965-4903 and (510) 233-1214 or send an email at dpatchin@richmondpd.net if they have any valuable information related to the case.
As of now, the investigation is ongoing.
