Riverside, CA – Fatal Accident near Market and Frederick Streets Claims Passenger’s Life

Riverside, CA (July 16, 2018) – Local news sources reported that a fatal accident took place along the 60 Freeway in the vicinity of Market and Frederick Streets. The incident happened at approximately 3:30 AM in the early morning hours on Sunday, July 15, 2018. Authorities have identified the deceased victim as 23-year old Shanilka Mapatuna, a resident of Moreno Valley, and a living victim as 23-year old Alazar Omari, of Fontana. No detailed information concerning the suspect driver or additional people involved in the crash has been revealed at this time.

According to the reports from the California Highway Patrol, a 19-year old girl from Ontario was driving 2002 Ford Mustang at high speeds westbound in the 60 Freeway east lanes at Frederick. For over seven miles, the girl drove down the highway until her vehicle slammed into the front of a black Dodge Caravan occupied by Omari and Mapatuna. As a result of the impact, the Dodge slid towards the center highway median and slammed into a divider.

Afterward, officials reported that Mapatuna, who had been a front-seat passenger, had succumbed to injuries and died at the crash site.

Meanwhile, Omari and the suspect driver suffered critical injuries from the impact and were taken to Riverside Community Hospital for more in-depth treatment.
