Riverside, CA. Fatal Car Crash on 91 Freeway Near Central Avenue

Riverside, CA. (July 9, 2018) – The Riverside County Sheriff-Coroner reported that one man had died and another five people were injured following a fiery crash on the 91 Freeway Saturday morning. The multi-vehicle accident apparently took place at approximately 8:30 a.m. in the vicinity of Central Avenue.

The driver of a pickup truck was allegedly swerving in and out of several lanes of the 91 Freeway throughout the carpool lane and up to the Central Avenue exit. The truck blew through a signal at the off-ramp and crashed into another vehicle that was heading west before reportedly overturning onto its side. A passenger in the pickup truck was apparently ejected from the vehicle and sadly died at the scene.

Following the collision, the pickup truck burst into flames and the driver made an attempt to flee the scene on foot until two witnesses reportedly stopped them. The witnesses were able to hold the suspect until police arrived. According to an initial report, authorities have reason to believe the pickup truck had been stolen, but this information has not yet been confirmed.

The driver of the pickup truck reportedly suffered injuries, as well as another passenger in the same vehicle. Both were taken to a local hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. Additionally, three people who had been in the other vehicle that was involved were also injured during the collision. Those victims were apparently hospitalized with injuries that were described as minor. The Riverside Police Department is currently conducting a full investigation into this crash.
