Rosamond, CA – Authorities Identify Two Drivers Involved in Fatal Two-Vehicle Traffic Accident on Mojave-Tropico Road near Rosamond Boulevard
Rosamond, CA (August 8, 2018) – A local news source recently provided updated information concerning the two drivers involved in the fatal two-vehicle traffic accident that took place along Mojave-Tropico Road, in the vicinity of Rosamond Boulevard. The unfortunate incident transpired at approximately 5:55 PM in the evening on Monday, August 6, 2018. As of today, authorities have identified the surviving, injured driver as 27-year old Tammy Monterroso, of Rosamond, and the fatality as 27-year old Katlyn Alyse Whempner.
Based on a report from the California Highway Patrol, Monterroso had been driving a 2017 Honda Civic southbound along Mojave Tropico Road. At the same time, Whempner was driving a 2007 Ford Focus northbound along the same route at uncalculated speed.
At one point, for indeterminate reasons, Whempner swerved into a nearby dirt shoulder as she hit a curve. Officials confirmed she had attempted to swerve into the north lane, but ultimately swerved across the side of the road. As a result, the Ford slammed head-on into the oncoming Honda.
Sometime later, officials confirmed Monterroso had been transported to Antelope Valley Hospital, where she received treatment for a cut on her leg sustained during the crash. CHP revealed she had been wearing a seatbelt prior to the crash.
During the crash, Whempner was thrown from the side window of the Ford, which spiraled counterclockwise after colliding with the Honda. Officials sadly proclaimed that she succumbed to injuries and died as a direct result of the accident.
Presently, investigators are looking into a possible cause for the crash.
We extend our most heartfelt prayers and deepest condolences to the family and friends of Ms. Katlyn Whempner and wish them strength and peace of mind during this difficult time. We also send our most loving prayers to Ms. Tammy Monterroso and wish her a swift and efficient recovery.
