Sacramento, CA – Hit-and-Run Crash Takes Life of Bicyclist on Highway 160 near Northgate Boulevard

Sacramento, CA (July 22, 2018) – According to a local news source in Sacramento, a bicyclist was struck and killed by a hit-and-run motorist early Saturday morning on Highway 160. The fatal collision that took place on the highway near Northgate Boulevard reportedly occurred sometime around 2:00 a.m.

The initial reports stated that an unidentified man who was riding his bicycle on the north side of Highway 160 was struck and killed by the driver of a 2012 Honda Accord for reasons that have not been determined. Emergency crews reportedly arrived on the scene shortly after 2:00 a.m. in order to attend to the victim. Unfortunately, the male bicyclist was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The victims’ name is currently being withheld until authorities can notify the family.

The driver who struck the cyclist apparently did not stop the vehicle to help the victim or cooperate with authorities but fled the scene instead. The suspect was later identified as Kamau Ndirangu, a 24-year-old man from Antelope. Ndirangu was apparently discovered at his home on the same day of the incident where California Highway Patrol officers proceeded to take him into custody. Ndirangu was swiftly booked into Sacramento County Jail on felony hit-and-run as well as suspicion of DUI. The investigation is ongoing.

Ndirangu will likely be facing felony charges for leaving the scene of an accident that resulted in the death of an individual, which will also provide grounds for a wrongful death claim, should the affected family make the personal decision to pursue compensation.
