The fatal accident took place at approximately 1:15 AM in the early morning hours on Sunday, August 19, 2018. As of today, the deceased victim has been identified as 56-year old San Anselmo resident Catherine Henry.  No details about the other three drivers and their passengers have been revealed at this time.

Based on the report from the California Highway Patrol, Henry had been driving a vehicle north on southbound 101 when, without warning, she slammed into the front-end of an oncoming Chevrolet Cruze. According to additional reports, a Mercedes-Benz tried to swerve away from the crash but ultimately crashed head-on into Henry’s vehicle. Simultaneously, a GMC Sierra also attempted to swerve out of the way but collided with the Chevrolet.

Sometime later, officials sadly confirmed Henry died at the crash site.

CHP also affirmed the two people who had occupied the Cruze suffered broken bones during the impact. Medical personnel brought the passenger, an individual from Watsonville, to a hospital in Salinas, while the driver was transported to a hospital in San Jose.

Officials also reported the two people who had occupied the Sierra sustained non-life threatening injuries. The current physical conditions of these people have not been revealed.

Afterward, authorities shut down southbound Highway 101 for approximately three hours, as part of cleanup and investigation procedures.

As of now, officials are looking into a probable cause for the crash.
