San Bruno, CA (June 6, 2019)- The intersection of the 280 Freeway southbound and the 380 Freeway northbound was the site of a motorcycle crash on Tuesday that left a motorcyclist requiring hospitalization.
The California Highway Patrol reported that a black 2007 Kawasaki motorcycle and a blue Toyota Prius crashed at the intersection at approximately 6:43 am. The impact of the crash resulted in the motorcyclist sustaining abrasions to the back and knee.
According to the report, paramedics reported to the scene and found the injured rider able to stand and walk. However, he was taken to San Francisco General Hospital for further examination and treatment of the abraded skin.
Substantial damage occurred in the motorcycle and the Prius.
It is currently unknown whether substances were factors in the crash.
An investigation is underway.
Our thoughts are with the injured victim and their family at this time. We hope for a full recovery.
California’s Motorcycle Helmet Laws
According to the California Vehicle Code Section 27803, motorcyclists are prohibited from riding in California without helmets. This law is not without good reason: data from the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration show that 309 motorcyclists’ lives were saved in 2016 because of helmets.
Everyone knows that motorcyclists are always susceptible to injury on the road. While helmets provide essential protection from a major injury in crashes, they will never be able to prevent catastrophic injuries or death in a serious accident caused by another driver.
Despite the use of helmets, motorcyclists can still find themselves with serious injuries if they are involved in a crash.
