San Diego, CA – Officers Arrest Driver Responsible for Fatal Pedestrian Accident on Del Sol Boulevard and Dennery Road in Ocean Crest

San Diego, CA (August 15, 2018) – A local news source reported that the driver responsible for the death of 66-year old Navy veteran Carmelo Figueroa turned himself in on Tuesday. The fatal pedestrian accident took place along Del Sol Boulevard and Dennery Road in Ocean Crest at approximately 7:00 AM on Monday, July 30, 2018. As of today, authorities have identified the culprit as 20-year old Carlos Eduardo Franco.

According to the primary report, Franco had been driving a 2012 Ford Fusion at high speed down Del Sol Boulevard when, for indeterminate reasons, he plowed into Figueroa. The force of the impact sent Figueroa flying 200 feet down the road, where he was ultimately struck by a second vehicle.

Sometime later, officials sadly affirmed Figueroa died at the site. Meanwhile, Franco had remained at the scene and spoke with officers.

At approximately 10:00 AM, Franco willingly surrendered to authorities at the San Diego Police Department Traffic Division at Kearny Mesa.  Officers brought him to the San Diego Central Jail on charges of vehicular manslaughter and gross negligence. His bail has been set at $50,000.
